Transcorp Power Limited, a subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc (Transcorp) has continued to contribute significantly to the development and wellbeing of the community where it operates. The staff school which Transcorp Power Limited adopted following the takeover of the Ughelli Plant, on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, held its 8th biennial inter-house athletics sports competition.
Commenting on the successful Inter-house sports event, Chief Host and Managing Director/CEO of Transcorp Power Limited, Christopher Ezeafulukwe highlighted the importance of extracurricular activities and the role they play in nurturing well-rounded individuals.
“At Transcorp Group, we are intentional about improving lives and transforming our continent. We know that there is no way to drive real change if we do not begin from our community, hence, our commitment to providing quality education for the leaders of tomorrow. Let me stress that sports play a major role in transforming lives and nurturing well-rounder individuals, so I am happy to host everyone here today. May the best house win,” Ezeafulukwe said.
As a company committed to transformation and positively impacting lives, Transcorp Power Limited understands the value of education and community development. The staff nursery, and primary schools at the power plant currently serve the community as well as its employees, guaranteeing a higher quality of education for the children in the community. In the 2019 West African Examination for secondary schools, one of the students from the staff school finished as the best-performing student in Delta state, showing the positive impact Transcorp Power is having in the community and replicating the impact its parent company Transcorp Group has committed to, everywhere it operates.
One of the ways Transcorp has been able to achieve its transformative agenda is through its investment in Transcorp Power. Last year, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced the successful installation of a brand new 150MVA 330/132/33kV Interbus Transformer (IBTR) at Transcorp Power substation, Ughelli which allowed the TCN to evacuate power from Transcorp Power at both 330kV and 132kV voltage levels, leading to reduced stranded capacity, increased performance and an increase in bulk power transmitted through the substation and better grid stability for consumers in Ughelli, Warri, and its surrounding areas.
Transcorp remains a key player in the power sector, currently contributing approximately 15% of the total power generated in Nigeria through its power plants in Ughelli, Delta, and Afam, Rivers State. In line with its ESG Commitments, its subsidiaries are very active in contributing positively to the communities where they operate.
The Transcorp Power Limited Staff School event was held at the School Sports Ground in Ekakpamre, Ughelli, and began with an opening speech by the chairman, Double Chief Kphoraror Edafe, who declared the competition open, setting the stage for a day of fun, sportsmanship, and healthy competition. Mrs. Ofuyovwi J.D, Chief Inspector of Education for Ughelli South L.G.A, was also present at the event as the special guest of honour.
